This community has a humble opinion of itself. It does not claim any world title. However, at least 55% of all the roses grown in the United States are from Wasco. Recently, there has been extreme competition from Latin and South America in this industry. The community does host a “Festival of Roses” the weekend after Labor Day. Events include a rose parade, a rose show, and guided tours of the surrounding rose fields. There is also a “Rose Queen Pageant”. Hopefully, the global economy will keep this community the rose capital of the nation.
