Morel mushrooms are abundant in this region of Missouri. Around 1981, the community started hosting a mushroom festival each year and declared itself the “Capital of Mushrooms”. The annual event is held in May and hosts a parade, a mushroom dance, and a contest for the biggest morel mushroom. As a bonus, you can visit the grave site of Bob Ford. He is the infamous coward who shot Mr. Howard in the back. Who was Mr. Howard? Mr. Howard was the infamous outlaw known as Jessie James.
